Rumichaca-Pasto corridor, Colombia

Construction project for the Rumichaca-Pasto corridor in Colombia

In 2016, Prointec, the head of a consortium with another Colombian company, was awarded the contract for the project to build the section of the Rumichaca-Pasto corridor between the start of the road and the town of Pedregal. Ruminchaca is the main border crossing between Colombia and Ecuador, and is located in a cluster of grazing areas. This route serves as a major channel for the exchange of products between the two countries, so the new corridor will significantly improve communications between southeast Colombia and its next-door neighbour.

The section of the corridor developed by Prointec consists of 44 km of a two-lane road, of which 19 km involve the duplication and improvement of the existing road, and 25 km are a new construction. The project includes nine junctions, four changes of direction and around 24,500 m2 of viaduct.

Specifically, Prointec carried out the following works: •    Traffic study
•    Geological and geotechnical studies
•    Geometric design studies
•    Climatology, hydrology and drainage
•    Earth moving and levelling
•    Surfaces and paving
•    Structures and walls
•    Building and urbanisation project
•    Signage, road markings and safety barriers
•    Additional works: ITS and lighting
•    Service replacement
